Car Clutches – part 2
Car clutch is a device that connects the engine with the transmission. Manual transmission cars have more than one clutch, also automatic transmission cars have clutches and many other devices which we use for daily use like chain saws, drills etc.
We need clutches in a car to smoothly transmit the rotation power of the engine to non rotating wheels and control the transmission between them. The motor while turned on spins all the time while the wheels do not. If we want to change speed smoothly without killing off the engine we need to separate wheels from the engine. That’s we do with a clutch.
For example if we are driving and want to change gear, we disconnect the wheel, change the speed and then connect again.

There are several parts, that is discs that one clutch is made of. Those are flywheel, clutch disc and pressure plate. When we place all these together we get a complete clutch device.
The flywheel goes on the engine, after that goes the clutch disk which is connected to the transmission, and on top goes the pressure plate. Other parts which follow after these are studs, diaphragm springs which isolate the transmission from the shock of engaging of the clutch, throw out bearing, clutch housing, release fork and bell housing and after that goes the manual transmission.
As every device there could happen some problems. The most common problems that happen on car clutches is the wearing off, of the friction material which is similar to the friction material of the brake pads.
Other common problems which could occur are:
Broken or stretched out clutch cable, which needs to be right tension to pull and push effectively, leaky or defective slave or master clutch cylinders, air in the hydraulic line, miss adjusted linkage and mismatched clutch components.
